Connecticut homeowners are being urged to clear their sidewalks of ice and snow or face fines.
In West Hartford, residents have to clear their sidewalks by Wednesday or they could face fines of $79. If residents live on a corner, they have to clear their curb cuts as well.
Elizabeth Archer said she received an email from town officials about the possible fine.
"So, we are," she said as she shoveled her sidewalk.
On Tuesday, many West Hartford neighbors told Eyewitness News that they were helping each other.
"I have to because most of us are senior citizens and we take care of the elderly," said Maryanne O'Connor.
With ordinary storms, West Hartford gives residents 12 hours to clear the snow once it stops falling. However, Blizzard Charlotte dropped record snowfall and city officials decided to give residents an extension.
"This is a lot of snow to clear," said Jessica Leyden. "I don't know if I'm going to make it, but I'll try."
