Neighbors in Bridgeport told Eyewitness News that a 29-year-old man died after suffering a medical emergency because an ambulance could not get to him because of snow-covered roads.
One man tried to get the victim into a car because the ambulance could not get close enough to the building on Stevens Street.
"From what I was told, yes," said Bridgeport Fire Chief Brian Rooney. "The street was blocked with snow and they did have difficulty there."
AMR, which is the ambulance company for the city, told Eyewitness News that they got within a few streets, but the snow-covered roads made it impossible to get to the man.
The victim was driven in a motor vehicle to the waiting ambulance where fire officials said he died on the way to the hospital.
"It's so sad to see someone so young and decent and hardworking go at such a young age," said one unidentified neighbor.
City officials told Eyewitness News that they own the street, but because of the overwhelming snow they have not been able to clear all of the streets yet. They said all the streets won't be clear for at least another few days.
Fire officials said they talked to AMR about making sure they called if they had trouble getting to their calls.
"On this particular call, from what I can tell they never called us and asked us for assistance," Rooney said.
On Tuesday someone who claimed to be with condo association was plowing the parking lot at the building.
