HAMDEN, CT (WFSB) -

A Hamden man was charged with driving under the influence after he crashed into a snowbank Sunday night with his wife and child in the car.

Edwin Velez, 33, was traveling on Pine Rock Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. when he crashed.

Officers discovered Edwin Velez, April Cassidy Velez, 32, and their 5-year-old daughter in the car. Edwin Velez failed a field sobriety test and police said he was nearly three times the legal limit.

When April Cassidy Velez arrived to pick up her husband, police determined that she was intoxicated and arrested her.

Officers found a bottle of wine and empty beer bottles in her pickup truck that was parked in a parking lot labeled "Police Vehicles Only." Police discovered a six-pack of beer.

Edwin Velez was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and risk of injury to a minor. He was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Feb. 22.
