Genesee Co. man convicted of sex crimes against girl
FLINT TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said a jury has convicted a 22-year-old Flint Township man for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl on numerous occasions.
A jury returned a verdict Thursday afternoon that convicted Curtis Conway Bailey of three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct for incidents that occurred between April, 2009 and May, 2010.
According to testimony, the assaults occurred on numerous occasions while the victim stayed with her family at Bailey's house and at least one time at the home of the victim. The victim testified that the assaults would occur while she would pretend to be sleeping and came to the attention of authorities after the victim submitted a couple of questions in her teacher's question box during health class at her elementary school.
"We take criminal sexual assault cases against children very seriously," said Leyton. "Although we cannot undo the damage that has been done to this young lady, I am pleased that we were able to see that justice was done under the law."
A sentencing date has been scheduled for April 8, 2013.
Criminal sexual conduct in the first-degree involving a child less than 13-years old is a felony punishable by up to life in prison or any term of years and carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison. Criminal sexual conduct in the second degree is a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
