WEST HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

A West Haven man was arrested after he was accused of assaulting an officer Wednesday night.

During a motor vehicle stop at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Brown Street, a driver told police that he was "having a difficult time with his nephew" Joseph Mayorga, 21.

While the officer was talking to the victim, police said Mayorga attacked him and hit him several times in the face.

Other officers arrived at the scene and assisted the officer in arresting Mayorga.

Mayorga was charged with assault on a police officer and two counts of breach of peace.

Police said they have been called to Mayorga's 31 times since 2010.
