Officials at Connecticut Light & Power said more than 3,000 of its customers in Manchester lost power Friday after a problem was reported at a substation.
Few details about the incident have been released, but CL&P officials said wires were brought down just outside the substation, which caused the large outage.
The outage affected at least three schools in Manchester, according to officials, and students at one of them were dismissed early.
Both Verplanck School and Waddell School said students would not be dismissed, but students at Cheney Tech were dismissed at 11:30 a.m. because of the outage.
Crews have been working to restore power, and while an exact restoration time has not been released, officials said power should be restored "shortly."
No other information was released.
