Five Greenwich teenagers, who attended a high school dance at a local teen center, were hospitalized for alcohol intoxication over the weekend.
Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei along with the police chief and school leaders are expected to meet with officials of the Arch Street teen center this week after the incident at the dance on Saturday night.
Greenwich Emergency Management Services told Eyewitness News that five different ambulances had to take the teens from the facility because they were intoxicated.
Two teenagers required advanced life support, which means a paramedic had to do a procedure like an IV or administer medicine.
Greenwich Teen Center Executive Director Kyle Silver said about 400 teens attended the dance.
"There are no coats or bags allowed in the space under any circumstance and there are no outside bottles allowed in the space," Silver said.
He added that the drinking occurred before the dance.
"Because once they enter the space and they are under our watch for the evening that's when we do not have issues under most circumstances," Silver said.
The dances are open to all Greenwich teens whether they go to public or private school.
Silver said parents need to make sure their child is dropped off at the door because a lot of times, there are parties nearby where there is alcohol.
"The kids go to people's homes where the parents allow it and the parents serve the alcohol," said Beth Boyer, who is a mother of three. "And they say better that it happen here where I can see it and monitor it."
