Three people have died after a fatal accident on Route 2 in Norwich Wednesday morning.
According to the Connecticut Department of Transportation, the crash occurred on Route 2 near the Preston border just before 8:30 a.m.
Police confirmed that the front-seat passenger and two back-seat passengers died in the crash. There were five adults in the car at the time of the accident, according to witnesses.
Police have not released the victims' identities at this time until notification of next of kin.
Witnesses said the jaws of life were used to get the people out of the vehicle.
Route 2 was closed between Palmer Street and Route 2A for more than four hours, while state police conducted its investigation. The state road reopened around 1 p.m.
A local business owner in the area told Eyewitness News that she has seen three crashes on that same stretch of road because cars drive fast.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by police.
