BOZRAH, CT (WFSB) -

An overnight standoff in Bozrah has ended after more than five hours.

State police were called to 98 Fitchville Rd. shortly before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday after reports of an intoxicated man with firearms.

Police said William R. Coleman Jr., 52, ignored officers' orders to come out of the house.

Neighbors in the immediate area were evacuated as precaution.

The state police SWAT team was called in to assist.

Police said Coleman surrendered to officers shortly after 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

He was taken into police custody without further incident and was taken to William Backus Hospital in Norwich for medical evaluation.

On Thursday, Coleman was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, interfering with an officer, second-degree reckless endangerment and carrying a firearm while under the influence of liquor/drugs.

He is being held on $35,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at Superior Court in Norwich on March 1.

A firearm was recovered from the residence, police said.

The incident remains under investigation by the state police.
