HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -
A convicted sex offender with a long criminal past was arraigned at Hartford Superior Court Thursday on kidnapping charges.
Police arrested 37-year-old Shawn Jarrett Wednesday after investigators confirmed that he tried to abduct a 17-year-old girl, who was walking to school Wednesday morning.
According to police, Jarrett grabbed the teenager by the waist and pulled her into an apartment building on Gillett Street.
Police said Jarrett got the girl into the elevator and then dragged her to the laundry room on the third floor. The girl started screaming and it was so loud, someone heard her and came running.
Jarrett fled after a resident walked by the laundry room.
Police said the teenager was not injured and Jarrett was arrested a short time later.
He was arrested and charged with breach of peace, reckless endangerment and kidnapping.
Records indicate that Jarrett was arrested for first-degree sexual assault among other charges in 1995 and was placed on the Connecticut sex offender's list for 10 years.
Jarrett has at least 26 arrests and that's only in Hartford.
In Hartford Superior Court Thursday, his bond was raised to $750,000.
