NORWICH, CT (WFSB) -
The Norwich Police Department released the names of the officers involved in a standoff where a 52-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday evening.
Police were called to the area of 172 Laurel Hill Ave. at 7:18 p.m. after getting word of a despondent man and were confronted by Michael Dugas, 52.
Police said Dugas, who was a local handyman, refused to respond to orders and later grabbed a handgun from his pocket and pointed it at officers.
At that time, police said they were forced to open fire and hit Dugas. He was brought to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Following the shooting, seven officers were placed on temporary administrative leave:
- Officer Mark Dean
- Officer Kyle Besse
- Officer Greg McDonald
- Officer Scott Meikle
- Officer Anthony Marceau
- Officer Richard Cannata
- Officer Chase Chiangi
The shooting is still under investigation by state police.
