Quinnipiac University seeks body donations for study

HAMDEN, CT (AP) -

Quinnipiac University is starting a body donation program.

The bodies will be used by students studying anatomy at the university's new medical school opening in August. The university says it's a way for donors to make a difference and an affordable alternative to funerals during tough times.

Medical schools have long used body donations to teach students. Experts say demand for bodies has grown with an increase in medical school enrollment and a desire to practice procedures.

After completing its study of a body, the medical school will pay to cremate the remains and return the ashes to the family.

To honor its donors, the school will hold a memorial service attended by the donors' family members, students and faculty.
