Wellington Residents Overwhelmingly Want Strong Protection of Equestrian Preserve, Independent Poll Shows

Wellington Equestrian Preservation Alliance public opinion survey shows solid support of Wellington Village Council's direction, including on Equestrian Preserve

WELLINGTON, Fla., March 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Residents in the Village of Wellington in Palm Beach County strongly support the preservation of the Wellington Equestrian Preserve and the direction the Wellington Village Council is taking the village, an independent public opinion poll shows.

The Wellington Equestrian Preservation Alliance commissioned the poll, conducted Feb. 20-22 by Florida-based polling firm Vancore Jones/Clearview Research of Tallahassee, of 300 registered voters in Wellington.

"Overall, the residents of this Palm Beach County Village enjoy their community, like where things are headed and – in particular – they are very protective of the Equestrian Preserve," said lead pollster Steve Vancore. "These numbers, along the high satisfaction indices, represent a stark contrast from the rest of the country (and even our state) where most citizens are expressing high levels of dissatisfaction with the direction of things."

Among the poll's findings:

• More than half (57 percent) feel the Village of Wellington is headed in the right direction, while only 20 percent feel it is headed in the wrong direction.
  
• Villagers feel positively about their new Village Council at an impressive 3:1 ratio, which is considered very high in the current political environment.
  
• More than two-thirds (70 percent) agree that The Village of Wellington "should do whatever it takes to protect and maintain the Equestrian Preserve."
  
• Four of every five (80 percent) agree that the "Equestrian Preserve is important to the economy and quality of life in the Village of Wellington."
  
• An overwhelming 84 percent like that "the Village of Wellington has dedicated and set aside a portion of the village as an Equestrian Preserve."
  
• Nearly two-thirds (64 percent) want less commercial development in the Village of Wellington as opposed to 28 percent who want more.

The results indicate that Village of Wellington residents are feeling very good about their new Village Council as well as protecting the local Equestrian Preserve," said Mat Forrest, executive director of the Wellington Equestrian Preservation Alliance. 

"The new Wellington Village Council has focused on protecting the preserve from over-development and on being more accountable to residents," Forrest said. "Villagers overwhelmingly like this new course and believe that we are finally headed in the right direction.  As for the Equestrian Preserve, Villagers are very clear – 'Hands off this precious resource!'"

Vancore added, "These results show a well-informed group of citizens who are very comfortable with their local political leaders, the direction of things in their community and especially the protection of the Equestrian Preserve."
