Yantic residents hoping for new post office

Posted: Updated:
Yantic, CT (WFSB) -

Residents in the village of Yantic have been without a post office for a year and few months ago, there was a chance that they would be receiving home delivery.

However, there has been word if and when home delivery is going to start and so, residents turned to Eyewitness News for help.

"They are not responding to the people's needs," Bassem Salahi of Yantic.

The nearest post office for Yantic residents is located in the town of Bozrah, which is about 2 miles away.

Yantic residents were promised answers from the United States Postal Service in May about how their mail would be handled, but they are still waiting on their answer.

"So far they keep everybody in the dark," Salahi said.

About 230 P.O. Boxes were moved to the post office in Bozrah, however residents told Eyewitness News that they want a better solution.

"We are finalizing our evaluation of delivery options and expect to provide a letter with an effective date of specific delivery options to our customers in the very near future," said a spokesperson for the United State Post Office.

Residents said they've been promised a solution before.

"They should definitely re-evaluate, we need another post office," said Concetta Franchetti of Norwich.
