BLOOMFIELD, CT (WFSB) -

The Bloomfield Police Department is asking for the public's help identifying the man suspected of robbing a gas station at gunpoint early Sunday morning.

According to police, a black man wearing a ski mask entered the Shell Gas Station on Blue Hills Avenue at 3:18 a.m.

The unidentified man told the clerk that he was in possession of a firearm and demanded the money from the cash register.

However, the employee "brandished a machete and ordered the suspect" to leave the store, police said.

The suspect removed his mask and ran out of the store without any money, police said.

No one was seriously injured during the attempted robbery.

The attempted robbery is still under investigation by the Bloomfield Police Department and anyone with any information is asked to call 860-242-5501 ext. 5231. All responses will be kept confidential.
