Bristol police said a burglary suspect set a fire to allow himself to get into a local business.
The suspect, 29-year-old Derek Rupe of Bristol, was discovered by police inside the Wasteland Gift Shop on Terryville Road around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
Police said Rupe started a small fire to weaken the exterior structure to assist him with gaining entry into the building. He also broke a water pipe inside the building.
Rupe was also found in possession of more than $500 and a metal throwing star he had stolen from the store.
He was arrested and is facing several charges, including burglary, carrying a dangerous weapon, criminal mischief and arson. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
Police said more than $1,500 worth of damage was done to the building.
