Police search for two women for stealing credit cards - WFSB 3 Connecticut

West Hartford police search for credit card thieves

The West Hartford Police Department is looking for two women they say stole credit cards and went on shopping sprees.

According to police, on March 1, two heavyset black women stole credit cards from people inside Bricco's Restaurant and Bartaco Restaurant in West Hartford Center.

Shortly after the thefts, police said the women used the stolen cards at Walmart, Staples, TJ Maxx in Bristol, Marshalls in West Hartford and TGI Friday's in Waterbury.

All of the cards were used to buy gift cards, food and clothing.

Police said they believe the women targeted purses that were left unattended at local bars and restaurants.

One of the restaurants told Eyewitness News that the women could be seen on their dark surveillance video moving up closely to the patrons at the bar, bumping into them and then reaching right into handbags or purses to get the goods.

The women were last seen in a silver four-door, mid-sized sedan.

Police said the suspects may still be around here or possibly out of state.

One of their purchases with the stolen credit cards was in Maryland, for instance.

So far it appears the thieves have only targeted women. But, men such as Tom Fitzpatrick take precautions too.

"I always keep my wallet in the side of my pants, not in any part of my jacket where someone could bump it," he said.

Anyone with information about the women are asked to call the West Hartford Police Department immediately at 860-523-2135.
