Police in Hartford said they're looking for a man wanted in connection with a series of groping incidents on Connecticut Transit buses.
Authorities said they're looking for Jesus Ayala, 58, in connection with the groping of two female teenagers on various buses.
"He'd sit on the bus next to somebody and it would begin with a passive accidental type rubbing," said Hartford Police Lt. Brian Foley. "And then more of an intimidation, grabbing and groping of females, generally younger in the 16- to 18-year-old range"
Ayala currently has two active arrest warrants charging him with sexual assault in the fourth degree and disorderly conduct.
Bus riders such as Melanie Shaw will recognize him.
"I've seen him on the bus just last week," she said.
Victims told investigators that Ayala would sit next to them even though the buses were almost empty. He was also smart enough to stay out of the view of surveillance cameras.
"When you are getting on a bus you are thinking from A to B, getting there, you're not thinking about that somebody might be thinking about harming you," said bus rider Sonyetta Strickland.
Police aid Ayala is also a suspect in another groping incident in Manchester, but that incident was never reported to police.
Hartford police said they're looking for other possible victims in the greater Hartford area.
Ayala is from East Hartford but may have fled to New York City.
Anyone with any information about Ayala or other incidents is asked to call 860-757-4463 or the tip line at 860-722-TIPS (8477). All tips will be kept confidential.
