Investigators say methamphetamine use by a Milwaukie woman played a "significant role" in the motive of a stabbing in Clackamas County on Friday morning.
Tara Axmaker, 25, is not only accused of stabbing 33-year-old Matthew Savage, of Beavercreek, but deputies said she stole a sheriff's patrol car and led deputies on a chase.
It happened around 1 a.m. Friday in the 16800 block of South Howards Mill Road.
Savage called 911 to say that he had been hurt, dispatchers said, and deputies responded.
Several minutes later, another deputy arrived on scene and noticed a patrol car driving away at a high rate of speed with no lights on, deputies said. While listening to his police radio, the deputy heard a woman go on an expletive-filled rant, investigators said. That confirmed to deputies that the patrol car had been stolen.
The deputy started to chase the woman. About five miles later, Axmaker lost control of the patrol car and crashed near Highway 213 and Molalla Avenue near Molalla, investigators said.
A tow truck driver on scene told FOX 12 that the patrol car's back bumper fell off. There was also some damage underneath the car after it jumped a curb and landed in a ditch, he said.
Axmaker was not hurt. She was taken into custody and now faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated theft, attempted assault of a public safety officer, unauthorized use of a vehicle, eluding a police officer and reckless driving. She also had a warrant out for her arrest on a parole violation.
Savage was rushed to a local hospital by helicopter, and he's listed in fair condition.
Deputies said Axmaker is no stranger to law enforcement. The local jail provided FOX 12 with 11 mugshots of Axmaker over the course of her criminal history. She has been arrested on charges of theft, resisting arrest, driving under the influence and providing false information to police.
