A dog is recovering after being attacked by two stray dogs in Clinton earlier this week.
According to family members, a 9-year-old greyhound named Daisy was going for a walk with owner Jeanne DeLaura on Pleasant Valley Road during the early morning hours of March 11.
Family members told Eyewitness News that is when they heard a noise and their pet was attacked by two other dogs.
"At first I thought it might have been a coyote or something," DeLaura said. "You just don't expect dogs to attack like that because it was just in seconds, dogs, they were on top of her and I mean viciously ripping her apart."
DeLaura screamed for help, which alerted a neighbor and her daughter who chased off the animals with a stick.
"Nothing like this ever happens in our neighborhood," said Tate DeLaura. "We don't know where the dogs came from we've never seen or heard about them."
The attack left a hole in Daisy's stomach and was treated at a local veterinarian for four days.
The dog is expected to recover from her injuries, but DeLaura said her vet bills were more than $2,000.
DeLaura told Eyewitness News that she was afraid the kids who gather at the nearby bus stop could be attacked by these animals too.
Police told Eyewitness News that they are still looking for the two other dogs involved in the attack.
The local animal control officer described one as a brown pitbull mix wearing a large, red collar or bandana and the other as a smaller black, short-hair mutt with possible white markings.
When the dogs are found, they will be impounded and the owners could face charges.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Clinton Police Department at 860-669-0451.
