A Bristol pastor's quick actions led to the capture of two brothers that broke into the Prospect United Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon.
"I was scared witless," said Pastor Robert Sorozan.
He showed our crew the shattered window to his office inside the church. He said he walked in the front door after making his visits at a local hospital Wednesday afternoon. When he turned to look into the office, he said he saw two men inside.
"I saw them and I got really scared," he said. "I ran out really fast, and as I was running out the door a police car came by and I flagged him down."
Police said they were outside the church because officers has actually been looking for a man with Alzheimer's disease that had wandered off.
"They were all here within five minutes," Sorozan said.
Police then shifted gears and chased down the two men as they bolted from the back of the building in an attempt to escape.
Police arrested Christopher Malino, 23, and his brother, Charles Malino, 25, and charged both with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny, third-degree criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary and conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny.
Sorozan said he's grateful the police were so close when he walked in on the burglary.
In addition, police were able to find the man they had been originally searching for when they were flagged down by Sorozan.
"Oh, God was good to us that day," he said.
Church officials said they believe all of the items that the brothers tried to steal have been recovered. As for the shattered windows, they're estimating it's going to take about $1,000 to fix them.
