Glastonbury Town Council votes to cut school budget

The Glastonbury Town Council voted Tuesday night to remove $800,000 from the original school budget proposed by the Board of Education.

Parents packed Glastonbury High School to debate the more than $93-million Board of Education budget.

Some parents Eyewitness News spoke with said they think the town came to a sensible decision, but not everyone agrees.

Some parents said they're worried about class size and possible teacher reductions.

"To cut again this year, there's nothing left to cut but the teachers," Jamie Clark said. "That's what so many of the parents here are concerned about."

Even with the cut, schools will still see about a $3-million increase next year compared to this year.

Town officials said they're still working out all the budget numbers, and parents who support restoring the $800,000 said they're talking about their next moves.
