A New Haven man came home to find an alleged burglar sleeping in a bedroom closet Sunday night.
Officers were called to a home on Ivy Street just after midnight after the homeowner found a man "unconscious and bleeding" in a closet on the second floor.
The homeowner told police when he arrived he discovered a broken window in his kitchen.
After finding a trail of blood in his home, he found Robert Mero, 52, unconscious.
The homeowner did not wake Mero and immediately called police.
Mero, who investigators believe was drinking alcohol, admitted to police that he broke in the home.
He was Yale-New Haven hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Mero was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and criminal mischief.
