GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Greenville grocery store employee was punched in the face by an Anderson man who was trying to shoplift several rib eye steaks on Tuesday, according to police.

Greenville police said 42-year-old Frederick Baker hid several packages of the beef under his clothes and tried to leave the Bi-Lo Store at 1315 S. Pleasantburg Dr. without paying.

When a worker stopped Baker, he dropped the steaks and tried to run away, police said.

The employee tried to block Baker's path, who in return hit the worker in the face several times, police said.

Baker was stopped by police and arrested. He was charged with strong arm robbery and third-degree assault and battery.

Police said the steaks were worth $45.32.
