Firefighters rescue man from burning building in Monroe

A man was pulled from a burning home in Monroe early Thursday morning.

Firefighters were called to a fire at a home on Squire Road around 2:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a an unconscious man inside the residence and brought him outside.

He received medical treatment at the scene and was taken to an area hospital where his condition is unknown at this time.

A woman and four children were able to get out of the home safely without being seriously injured. And firefighters were able to save the family dog.

A firefighter required oxygen on the scene, but was not taken to the hospital.

Monroe Fire Department Spokesman Kevin Catalano said the fire started in the second floor bedroom and was contained to that room. Catalano added the fire was knocked down.

The family is expected to be able to return to their home soon, Catalano said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
