CLINTON, CT (WFSB) -

A Waterbury man is under arrest and facing several charges after police said he used a juvenile to assist with several larcenies at Clinton Crossings Sunday.

Police said they came upon the suspect, identified as 45-year-old Michael Savage, and a victim arguing outside one of the stores.  The victim told police that Savage took a newly purchased jacket out of their bag and gave it to a child who then ran off.

Police said they searched Savage and found numerous stolen items and a tool used to remove anti-theft devices from clothing.  In addition, police located more than $1,200 in stolen items in his vehicle, along with the aforementioned juvenile who was found with the stolen jacket.

The juvenile, who is 11-years-old, told police he was instructed by Savage to assist him in shoplifting.  Police determined Savage is a family friend of the child's mother and had permission to travel with him to Clinton.

In addition, police said they viewed surveillance video showing the pair involved in shopliftings at multiple stores in the complex.

Savage is being held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Middlesex Superior Court on Monday.  He is charged with fourth-degree larceny, risk of injury to a minor, possession of a shoplifting device and interfering with an officer.

The child was released to his mother.
