Posted: Updated:

Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection officials are investigating a suspicious substance found at a Jewish community center Thursday afternoon.

Police said the discovery was made at the Mandell JCC of Greater Hartford just before 2 p.m. after an employee opened a letter and powder was inside it.

There were no reported injuries, according to DEEP officials.

DEEP Hazmat was assisted by the West Hartford Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Around 3:30 p.m., people were allowed back into the center and the scene was cleared.

"JCC Administration was praised for handling this concern appropriate and quickly," said Gennifer Delay Pasternak, of Mandell JCC. "We are all fine here."
