A Las Vegas attorney faces a concealed weapon charge after being caught trying to bring a firearm into a downtown courthouse.
According to an arrest declaration released by Las Vegas Metro police, Kirk Ryan Helmick was arrested on Monday about 4:15 p.m. at the Regional Justice Center.
In the declaration, officers working the X-ray scanners at the entrance of the facility observed an image of a firearm in a briefcase.
Officers identified the owner of the briefcase as Helmick and asked whether it belonged to him. In the declaration, Helmick replied that the gun belonged to him.
Police described the firearm as a Smith Wesson model 910 9mm semi-automatic handgun. Police stated in the report the firearm was loaded with nine rounds of live ammunition.
In the declaration, police stated officers advised Helmick it was prohibited to bring any kind of weapon into the courthouse, even pointing out signs around the facility. Helmick was booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
A records search showed Helmick as a practicing attorney in Las Vegas.
An officials at Regional Justice Court said Helmick is due to appear before a judge in connection to the incident on August 6.
