The grounds of Augusta National may seem as traditional and timeless as possible. But the people and technology that run its digital domain look for new innovations all the time.
John Kent, technology manager for Masters.com, said two dozen people work before, during, and after the tournament to keep the website, tablet, and smart phone apps running and up to date.
"We're seeing that more people are using their smart phones and tablets to access us as opposed to strictly desktop computers," Kent said. "Last year, we had 12 million different users so we're trying to enhance that experience."
One of the new features for the app is a 360-degree interactive view of certain iconic scenes such as the large oak behind the clubhouse. Vistors and change the angle and vantagepoint by sliding the keyboard.
Ironically, that digital access is off-limits to fans inside the club grounds. Cell phones are not allowed inside Augusta National Golf Club.
The website is available at www.masters.com. The app is available in iphone and android formats.
