STRATFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A 64-year-old woman turned herself into police Monday after she misreported the theft of her own dog from a store parking last month.

According to investigators, Carolyn Novotny of Stratford is accused of reporting to police that her dog was stolen from the Home Depot parking lot on Main Street in Derby.

Novotny was charged with falsely reporting an incident and interfering with a police officer when investigators learned that the dog was never actually stolen.

She was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at Derby Superior Court on April 25.
