BURTON, MI (WNEM) -

A seven-year-old special needs student died while riding the bus home from school on Monday.

Burton Police Lt. Mike Odette told TV5 the boy was a student within the Genesee Intermediate School District. Odette said the child was thought to be sleeping on the bus, as that is common after attending a full day of school for these children.

Authorities said only when the bus stopped at the child's home on Friel Street was it realized that there was a bigger problem.

Investigators told TV5it was determined the boy died as a result of his particular condition. MLive is reporting that condition was cerebral palsy.
