Former Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele will formally announce his candidacy to become the next mayor of Stamford.

An official campaign kick-off event has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in the front lobby of the University of Connecticut - Downtown Stamford at 1 University Place.

"Stamford has been my home since I immigrated to America with my parents when I was 3 years old, 55 years ago," Fedele said in a statement. "Stamford was a place of unlimited opportunity then, and it remains one of the Northeast's most vibrant and successful cities."

At the event, Fedele is expected to be joined by neighboring chief elected officials including Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tessi, Mayor Mark Boughton of Danbury, and Stamford's outgoing Mayor Michael Pavia.

Fedele filed the proper paperwork to start his campaign Feb. 25.

"I have the commitment, the experience and the vision to lead Stamford to its very best days," Fedele said in his statement. "I was able to achieve success with the opportunities our community provided to me and I am running for Mayor to make sure those same opportunities will still be here for our children and grandchildren."

Fedele served as the state's 107th Lt. Governor from 2007 - 2011, where he presided over the State Senate.

He is also the founder and CEO of the Stamford-based Pinnacle Group, a nationwide IT firm.

His 25 years of public service began as a member of Stamford's Board of Representatives from the 13th District from 1987to 1991, and represented Stamford's 147th District as a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1992 until 2002.
