NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The new CEO of a Nashville-based charity says he is taking steps to change its image and restore the public's trust.
Buddy Teaster told The Tennessean that the business model for Soles4Souls used to be $1 equals one pair of shoes. The problem was the slogan wasn't true.
Teaster says he wants to revamp the business model for the charity and improve its reputation.
Under the leadership of founder Wayne Elsey, Soles4Souls became one of the nation's fastest-growing charities but also came under fire because of its finances and its practice of selling shoes donated by the public.
Teaster says the organization will still give away any new shoes and clothing its collects, but its primary focus will be microenterprise in the developing world.
