In a multi-agency effort, which included the Pima County Sheriff's Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Tucson Police Department, serial bank robber Elias Freig was taken into custody at his residence just north of Tucson early Friday morning.
Freig, 31, had been under investigation for three separate bank robberies. Two of those robberies occurred in the Phoenix area and the other was within Tucson city limits.
Evidence collected at several scenes tied the suspect to the robberies and with the help of FBI agents the suspect's identity and location were confirmed.
Freig was taken in to custody at his home and will be booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center.
