A New Britain police officer is recovering from injuries he sustained Tuesday night after being involved in a crash.
Police said the officer was responding to a call of a man with a gun when the cruiser he was driving was hit by an oncoming vehicle at the intersection of Broad and Washington streets around 10 p.m. The impact of the crash caused the officer's vehicle to roll over into a nearby light pole.
The officer was able to crawl out of the car on his own and was conscious when he was taken to the hospital.
The female driver of the other vehicle was also taken to an area hospital for treatment.
There is no word on the extent of their injuries at this time; however, police say that the officer is expected to be OK.
New Britain police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call 860-826-3000.
