A 3-year-old boy is dead in Yuma and his grandmother is in custody, authorities said.
Yuma police said officers responded to a report of a child with a gunshot wound about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday.
The boy was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said it appears the boy came into possession of his grandmother's handgun.
Officers said 35-year-old Rachel Spry was later arrested and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center.
Police said she's being held on suspicion of manslaughter, misconduct involving weapons, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
They said the case remains under investigation.
