Police to set up spot checks as search for missing student continues

WILLIMANTIC, CT (WFSB) -

After nearly two weeks without a trace, Connecticut State Police will set up spot checks near the campus of Eastern Connecticut State University to try and get more information about the whereabouts of Alyssiah Wiley.

Wiley was last spotted near the Dairy Queen just off campus April 20 and hasn't been seen or heard from since.

"Please, from a mother to the public, please help us bring our loved one, our baby home," an emotional Corina Martin, Wiley's mother, said.

She and her family are begging for answers and asking anyone that may have information about where Wiley is to come forward.

On April 20, the 20-year-old sophomore told her roommate she was going home to West Haven for the weekend.

No one has seen her since.

Police said they have been getting good leads about where she may be, but they are still looking for more. Investigators said Wiley does have credit cards and a cell phone, but neither had any activity since she disappeared.

In addition, police said they did find a car they were looking for in Bridgeport, but have not said why they were looking for it or how it may be connected to her disappearance.

Police have been searching the campus and neighboring areas using search dogs, but so far nothing.

They've even gone to Mansfield, asking homeowners if they've seen anything suspicious.

Begging for her daughter's safe return and with police and family by her side, Martin issued a tearful plea.

"Please bring my baby home. We need anyone who knows, we know someone does, to come forward."

In addition to the spot checks, a Facebook page has been set up for people to leave tips with any information someone may have in connection to Wiley's disappearance.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Missing Person Clearinghouse at 860-685-8190 or text CRIMES (274-637) with the heading TIP711 plus a message.

All tips and information will be kept confidential.
