A giant of the NBA says new graduates should not get weighed down by the big expectations of others.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar spoke Sunday to just under 1,200 students who received degrees from the New England Institute of Technology.
The Providence Journal reports the 7-foot-2 former star of the Los Angeles Lakers told those graduating that the most annoying question they will face is, "What are you going to do next?" He says it was a question that put pressure on him when he finished his NBA career.
He says he did the unexpected, including writing history books and coaching basketball on an Indian reservation.
Abdul-Jabbar then challenged the graduates to prove they are worthy of being successful by making themselves significant.
