NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

A knife fight outside a bar in New Haven led to one man being arrested and another being sent to the hospital.

According to police, Carlos Santos, 25, and his brother Sergio Martinez-Suarez, both of New Haven, went to a bar in the area of Lombard and Ferry streets to play pool.

Officers were called to that area after reports of a knife fight involving Santos and Martinez-Suarez as well as another man.

During the fight, police said Santos stabbed a man and that man was being treated by firefighters when officers arrived.

Upon arrival, officers found Martinez-Suarez struggling with Santos, who was bleeding badly.

Santos dropped the knife once he saw the officers. He fled down Ferry Street where he was caught by them and arrested.

The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Santos, who was also taken to an area hospital, was charged with first-degree assault.

Witnesses told police that Santos and Martinez-Suarez become violent when they drink.
