A 22-year-old Norwich man who said he was beaten by a group of white men in 2007 is back in the news after being arrested on gun charges.
Police say Nashawn Williams fired several shots from a handgun on Hamilton Avenue on April 21, including one that struck a sport utility vehicle. No one was hurt.
The Norwich Bulletin reports Williams was arraigned Monday on charges including the unlawful discharge of a firearm.
Williams, who is black, was a 16-year-old Plainfield High School student in October, 2007, when he told police he was attacked by a group of white men while waiting for a bus.
Police and the FBI investigated for 11 months, but never made an arrest, prompting protests from supporters who alleged racism.
