ENFIELD, CT (WFSB) -

Two workers were seriously burned after a propane explosion at a metal shop in Enfield on Tuesday afternoon.

Members of the Shaker Pines Fire Department said the minor explosion occurred at the Eastern Metal Treating plant on Bacon Road around 2 p.m.

According to fire officials, the workers were changing a propane tank, which was full at the time, on a forklift when the gauge blew off. When someone comes in contact with propane gauge, it is called a cold burn.

Nothing caught on fire, officials said.

The two workers suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being burned on their face and arms, fire officials said.

The two unidentified men were taken to Baystate Medical Center because officials were concerned about their lungs.

The building was being vented and officials are trying to determine when employees can return to the facility.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration is expected to investigate the incident.

Eastern Metal Treating does heat treating of different parts, plant officials said.
