More than 400 state and local officials are slated to attend a conference in Cromwell to discuss responding to emergencies and natural disasters.
The Connecticut Emergency Management Symposium is scheduled for Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Crown Plaza Hotel and Conference Center. Topics include school security planning, emergency preparedness and cyber-security.
Jim Finley is the executive director and chief executive of the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, which is co-sponsoring the conference. He says assessing and improving emergency response capabilities have become vital in the wake of the Newtown school shootings, the Boston Marathon bombings and several major storms that hit the state.
The symposium also is being sponsored by the Public Health Department and the state Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
