Long-term changes to I-95, I-91 in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

Starting next weekend, some big, long-term changes are coming to interstates 95 and 91 in New Haven.

Next weekend, only I-95 northbound will be reduced to two lanes with one going I-95 north and the other I-91 north.

Then, for the next year the Exit 46 on-ramp from I-95 north will not allow drivers to merge onto I-91 north, instead, those drivers will be forced to detour around the Q-Bridge.

Officials told Eyewitness News they expect drivers to have a difficult time adjusting to these changes.

"Lanes will be open, there may be restrictions, some closures, to get to your destination, it may take a little longer, so we urged everyone to leave a little sooner," said Brian Mercure, who is an assistant district engineer.
