The Apache County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of an Arizona man who was found with a gunshot wound to the chest after he failed to return from a turkey hunting trip in the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest.
Sheriff's Sgt. Richard Guinn says authorities received a call last week about an overdue hunter. Family and friends told authorities the man was supposed to return to his Chandler-area home May 1 but never showed up.
Deputies found the hunter dead at his camp on May 2. They say there was no indication of foul play or a disturbance.
Sheriff Joseph Dedman says there's nothing to indicate that this is anything other than a tragic hunting accident, but the case is still under investigation.
Authorities did not release the hunter's name.
