Alvin Vallo disguised himself as a Warrior mascot to propose to the love of his life.
He got down on one knee, and popped the question to Jillian Glenn in front of more than 900 students and teachers.
She said, "Yes!"
"He did a wonderful job," Glenn said through tears of joy. "I'm just excited to be his wife."
D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -
Next week, third through eighth graders across Mississippi will be taking the MCT-2. D'Iberville Middle School holds a pep rally every year to get students excited about those important state tests. This year's pep rally was extra special. It included a surprise guest and an engagement ring.
"D-M-S, rock that test!" the cheerleaders shouted during a pep rally at D'Iberville Middle School Friday morning.
Every time May rolls around, Jillian Glenn and her cheerleading squad lead the charge to get all the students at the school pumped-up for the MCT-2.
"So what are the Warriors going to do?" Glenn asked her students.
"Rock that test!" they responded.
"Jill's energy level in the classroom, as a cheer instructor, is almost unbelievable. That's why we rely on her to get our children psyched up for this test," said D'Iberville Middle School Principal Dean Scarbrough.
Glenn's students aren't the only ones who think she's extra special. Outside the gym, her boyfriend, Alvin Vallo, was waiting anxiously. He was in disguise as a Warrior mascot, and he was ready to propose to the love of his life.
"We've been dating eight months. I love her a lot, and I can't wait to surprise her with this," said Vallo as he showed off the diamond ring. "I think she's going to be freaked out. Yeah, she loves surprises. I'm very nervous."
As the pep rally wound down, the mascot suddenly appeared. He got down on one knee, and popped the question to the unsuspecting teacher in front of more than 900 students and teachers. The cheerleaders held up signs that read: "Will you marry me?"
"I couldn't believe it. When I saw the signs going, I was like, 'Please be talking to me. Please let these signs be for me.' And then, he pulled his hat off and it was him, and all I could do was cry," said Glenn.
"I was really surprised. I didn't think she'd cry that much," said Vallo.
"I love surprises. This surprise topped it all. I didn't know," said Glenn. "I love him. It was just a blessing. He did a wonderful job. I'm just excited to be his wife."
After years of inspiring her students, it's now their turn to cheer on the happy couple.
"Congratulations!" the cheerleaders shouted as they gave Glenn a group hug.
Glenn has been teaching at D'Iberville Middle School for five years. Vallo works for a plumbing and air conditioning business. The couple has not set a wedding date yet.
