Police told CBS 3 that Miguel Bonilla, 30, of West Springfield, was charged with attempted murder after they say he beat a man with a baseball bat.
The incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday in the area of Fargo Street and Gilbert Avenue.
Police said Bonilla's girlfriend alerted officers of the confrontation.
The alleged victim, who was the woman's ex-boyfriend, entered the residence and found the couple in bed.
Police said the victim initially struck Bonilla with the bat, but then Bonilla wrestled it away and began beating on the victim.
