A 23-year-old Bloomfield man was fatally shot and killed in the city's north end Monday night, police said.
Officers were called to the area of Blue Hills Avenue and Euclid Street at about 8 p.m. after getting word of the shooting.
"Officers came here and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head," Lt. Brian Foley said. "He was pronounced dead at the scene."
Investigators said the man was shot multiple times including once in the head.
The victim has been identified by police as Javar Preston.
As the Hartford Police Department Major Crimes Unit investigate, they said they will try to figure out if Monday's shooting is in any way connected to any other recent shootings or crimes in the city.
On Sunday, Hartford had two separate reports of shots being fired, including a shooting on Albany Avenue near Sigourney and Edgewood Streets. A 30-year-old man was shot in the chest.
The surge in shootings comes as city leaders look for ways to curb violence. On Tuesday morning, Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra, Police Chief James Rovella, Gov. Dannel Malloy and other city leaders will hold a community forum on strategies to prevent violence, including community policing.
Anyone with information is urged to call Hartford police at 860-757-4000 or the tip line at 860-722-TIPS (8477). All calls will be kept confidential.
