BLOOMFIELD, CT (WFSB) -

A 32-year-old woman died from complication related to fire at a housing complex in Bloomfield on April 30.

Firefighters were called to the Woodside Village Apartments, which houses mostly seniors, on Dorothy Drive at about 9:00 a.m.

Khatisha Byrd was taken to Bridgeport Hospital where she died after her body kept filling with fluids.

No autopsy was performed on Byrd because she died at the hospital and not at the scene.

Five people also had to be treated for signs of smoke inhalation. Two police officers were examined at the scene.

Several units were damaged by smoke and water and many residents were displaced by the fire. Many of them stayed with relatives and friends.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The state fire marshal is assisting with the investigation.
