An 11-year-old girl is recovering after a distracted driver hit her and then fled.
She is recovering at Children's Mercy Hospital with a broken arm, ruptured eardrum and fractured pelvis.
Her family is angry and hope police can catch the driver of the red Oldsmobile Alero that hit her.
Shumiya Timley was crossing The Paseo near Gregory Boulevard when the driver plowed into her. The woman, who was talking on her cell phone, then fled, Shumiya's aunt, Catina Timley, explained.
"Lady, you've got to be the coldest person in the world," Timley said. "She flipped in the air like three times, hit the curb and slid over the curb into the grass and she just left her there!"
Shumiya is alert and talking, her aunt said.
"She's so sweet. She's more worried about everybody else," her aunt said. "She's a tough cookie."
The family is hoping for justice for her. If you have any information about the hit-and-run driver, call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
