Sherry Lakey said her 32-year-old son, Scott, would probably be dead if it wasn't for a group of quick-thinking neighbors.
"He's doing OK," Lakey said. "Thankfully, because he has two little girls to think about."
She said Scott was working on repairs under his pickup Saturday afternoon when the tires slipped off the blocks and it fell on top of him.
Jose Cervantes lives next door and said he heard the man screaming for help.
"I was home watching the soccer game, and I heard somebody screaming," he said.
Cervantes said he followed the screams to the parking lot next door and saw Scott stuck under the pickup.
"He was all the way in the middle of the truck," said Cervantes. "Me and the three guys came over here and lifted the truck up."
Cervantes and the two other men lifted it up just enough for another neighbor to grab Scott by the legs and pull him out.
They called 911, and paramedics airlifted Scott the hospital.
His mom was upstairs in their apartment the whole time, and said she never heard him screaming for help.
"He was being crushed right in the center of his stomach," said Lakey.
Luckily she said Scott wasn't seriously hurt thanks to a group of strangers who worked together to save his life.
"I am so thankful they were there to do that," she said.
